Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Involved in teaching and learning (undergraduate and post-graduate programmes); research which fits into the Faculty's focus areas; post-graduate supervision (where applicable); community service and tasks which relates to all above activities.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching and Learning.

Minimum requirements

  • An LLB degree (NQF level 8).
  • An LLM (NQF level 9) in any field in law.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 1-2 years’ experience in academia (Lecturer), OR
  • 3-5 years post admission experience in private practice or 5 years post admission experience in public prosecution
  • Proven record of postgraduate supervision
  • Publication in accredited journals will be an advantage. 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with expertise concerning teaching-learning and research in any of the following subject fields: Public Law - Constitutional Law, Socio Economic Rights, Administrative Law. However, candidates with expertise in any other legal field will be considered.
  • Legal language skills.
  • Knowledge in or experience in curriculum development in higher education.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as email, Internet and the electronic retrieval of legal sources. Knowledge of or ability to work with LMS will be an advantage.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Language skills in order to function optimally in the different multilingual environments of the NWU.

  • The ability to accommodate multiculturalism and diversity
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
