PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the position is to provide undergraduate teaching to BPharm students in the subject of
Pharmaceutics as well as to provide supervision to postgraduate students (i.e., MSc and PhD programs in
Pharmaceutics). The undergraduate teaching duties will mainly include presentation of theory lectures (face to-
face and online), setting and marking of tests and examination papers as well as presentation of practical
sessions. This position also requires involvement in research activities in terms of conceptualisation of
research projects and management thereof to generate research outputs in the form of research articles,
participation in conference presentations and other forms of publications such as book chapters and
conference proceedings.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING AND LEARNING:
· Co-ordination of a Pharmaceutics module, which include study guide development and maintenance, lecturing, presentation of practical sessions, assessment (setting of papers, marking of scripts and moderation of papers), administration of student marks and other aspects related to the module.
POSTGRADUATE TEACHING AND LEARNING:
· Supervision of postgraduate students in the MSc and PhD programs.
RESEARCH:
· Initiation of new projects, management of projects, writing and publishing of articles, writing of funding applications, mentoring young researchers.
LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIVENESS:
· Provide service to the University by contributing to the definition and achievement of its goals and enable it to be a healthy organisation. This includes being a member of faculty and subject group committees and working parties within the University.
· Maintain an involvement in community service as a scholarly practice through the application of pharmacological knowledge and skills.
KEY FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
· A sound knowledge of Pharmaceutics and the application thereof in Pharmacy
· A sound knowledge of formulation principles in dosage form design
· Computer literate (Windows® and Microsoft® Office)
· Language proficiency in Afrikaans & English (reading/writing/speech)
· Presentation/lecturing skills

Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· BPharm and registration as pharmacist is essential and involvement in practice is recommended.
· PhD in Pharmaceutics is essential. (A6)
· MSc in Pharmaceutics with 2 publications is essential. (A7)
· Registration with South African Pharmacy Council is essential.
EXPERIENCE/S:
· 2 years’ experience in the following sectors of Pharmacy: Academic and/or Retail and/or Hospital and/or Manufacturing in a senior position is essential. (A6)
· 2 years’ experience in the following sectors of Pharmacy: Academic and/or Retail and/or Hospital and/or Manufacturing in a senior position is desirable. (A7)
· 2 years’ experience in pharmaceutical related aspects of practice, e.g., formulation and evaluation of dosage forms in a senior position is essential (A6).
· 2 years’ experience in pharmaceutical related aspects of practice, e.g., formulation and evaluation of dosage forms in a senior position is desirable (A7).
· 5 years excellence in lecturing to undergraduate students as well as proven record of supervision to postgraduate students on the master’s and Doctoral levels. Proven record of research output in the form of published scientific articles in accredited peer-review journals according to the criteria for Associate Professor of the North-West University is essential. (A6).
· 2 years excellence in lecturing to undergraduate students as well as 2 publications in an accredited journal. (A7).
