Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate Mathematics or Applied Mathematics modules in the Extended programmes; and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Teaching:

·        Teaching of undergraduate students & honours modules.

2.     Research:

·        PhD studies and publication of papers in accredited journals.

3.     Academic Leadership:

·        Involvement in departmental activities and committees

4.     Social Responsiveness:

·        Involvement in community engagement projects; subject-specific societies, and external moderation

Minimum requirements

·        An MSc (NQF level 9) in Mathematics with a focus on Algebra, Topology & Functional Analysis

·        A minimum of two (2) years’ undergraduate teaching and/or tutoring experience.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Latex, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

·        Matlab.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Teamwork.

·        Organisational Skills.

·        Communication.

·        Leadership.

·        Trustworthiness & Ethics (Academic integrity).

 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
