Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate mathematics modules and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of honours students
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching:
- Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics modules.
- Development of new modules.
2. Research:
Supervision of honours students and studying towards a PhD degree/supervision of postgraduate students.
3. Organisational & management tasks:
- Help with administrative and management tasks within the subject group.
Minimum requirements
· A Masters of Sciences in Mathematics with Algebra, Topology, Number Theory and Functional Analysis as areas of specialisation.
· The candidate must be registered for a PhD in Pure Mathematics.
· A minimum of 2 years’ experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
· A PhD in Mathematics with Algebra, Topology, Number Theory and Functional Analysis as areas of specialisation.
· SAMS and AMS membership.
· A proven research record.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Latex, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
