Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose is to provide support and aid in various technical aspects related to facilities management, sound and lighting operation, stage management, and audio-visual operations. 

Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical operations: Lighting – NWU Sanlam Auditorium                        
·         Provide operational maintenance of the lighting equipment of the NWU Sanlam Auditorium.
·         Aid with the smooth running of the technical aspects of the facilities day-to-day operation.
·         Aid with the rigging and setting of lighting, setting up of lighting equipment, acquiring, and setting up props, masking, etc. on stage.
·         Aid with the technical operation of lighting, and other related effects during performances.
·         Aid with rehearsals with appropriate lighting as needed.
·         Attend production meetings and regular technical department meetings as required to aid with:
o   The basic planning of production / theatre lighting and relevant logistic requirements.
o   The sourcing of production / theatre lighting and relevant logistic requirements, where required.
o   Ensure the maintenance of Health and Safety regulations in accordance with the NWU Policy to promote a culture of safety.
 
2. Technical Operations: Sound - NWU Sanlam Auditorium
·         Provide operational maintenance of the sound equipment of the NWU Sanlam Auditorium.
·         Aid with the smooth running of the technical aspects of the facility’s day-to-day operation.
·         Aid with the rigging and setting up of sound equipment.
·         Aid with the technical operation of sound equipment and other related effects during performances.
·         Aid with appropriate sound during rehearsals, as needed.
·         Attend production meetings and regular technical Division’s meetings, as required, to aid with:
o   The basic planning of production / theatre sound and relevant logistic requirements.
o   The sourcing of production / theatre sound equipment and relevant logistic requirements, where required.
·         Ensure the maintenance of Health and Safety regulations in accordance with the NWU Policy to promote a culture of safety.
 
 
3. Operations: Basic planning – NWU Sanlam Auditorium            
·         Aid with the planning of production schedules, where required.
·         Aid with the effective and efficient implementation of production schedules.
·         Aid with stage management.
o   Aid with the controlling / directing a musical performance / production / function on stage during a performance or function.
 
4. Technical Operations: Alabama Productions
·         Provide operational maintenance of technical equipment of Alabama Productions.
·         Aid with the smooth running of the technical aspects of the day-to-day operations of Alabama Productions, where required.
·         Aid with the rigging and setting of lighting, setting up of sound equipment, where required.
·         Aid with the technical operation of sound, lighting, and other effects during performances.
 
5. Digitalization
·         Aid and provide support with the audio-visual capability and digital service delivery of NWU Arts.
 
6. Occupational Health and Safety
·         Aid and provide support with regards to monthly OHS inspections and reports.
·         Aid with safety checks in the facility before performances. 

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent qualification.
·         Working-at-heights certification.
·         A minimum of two (2) years’ operational experience / knowledge in the use of technical equipment, e.g., sound, lighting, and audio-visual equipment.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
·         First Aid Level 1
·         Basic Fire Fighting Level 1.
 
FUNCTIONAL AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Working knowledge of basic set-up and operation of sound, theatre lighting and audio-visual technical equipment.
·         Working knowledge of basic maintenance of sound and lighting equipment, e.g., cable repairs.
·         Working knowledge of production / event management – safety, planning, scheduling, and implementation.
·         Operational knowledge of procedures in a theatre environment.
·         Operational knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety in a theatre environment.
·         Working-at-heights training.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
