Minimum requirements

• PhD in English Literature or relevant qualification
• Teaching experience at university level (3 – 5 years)
• Proven research record and publications in Literature or related fields
• Proven track record of supervising Master’s and/or PhD students in Literature or related fields
• Work effectively as part of a team and relate well with colleagues and peer

Recommended competencies:
• Proven publication records in peer-reviewed journals
• Supervision and teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students
• Research interest in Literature or related fields
• Support and mentor junior staff members

Teaching and learning: Applicants should
• Be able to teach different genres of Literature (Poetry, Drama, the Novel and Fiction) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Have a record of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.
• Have experience teaching and willing to teach 17th , 18th and19th Century Literature
• Have a good knowledge of African, World and Contemporary Literature.

Community engagement:
• Be actively involved in community engagement team projects

Essential Competences (Knowledge and skills)
• Online facilitation of teaching-learning and blended learning
• Facilitation of teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Develop courses /modules in Literature
• Conduct independent research and exhibit a proven research record
• Provide postgraduate supervision
• Handle large undergraduate classes
• Deal with administrative tasks when required
• Computer literacy - Knowledge of Microsoft package

• Work effectively as part of a team
• Work under pressure and independently
• Leadership qualities
