PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Person is responsible to assist the Head Chef in the daily catering operations at the NWU Sprots Village kitchen in regard to the preparation of food, stock taking, menu planning and adhering to OHS regulations.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Catering
- Planning and preparation of food according to set menu’s
- Setting up and supervising serving areas
2. Quality Control
- Neatness of kitchen
- Portion control
- Assist with stock taking
- Ensure all equipment is neat and in working order
3. General Operation
- Management of kitchen on shifts and on weekends
4. Liasson
- Good communication with colleagues, suppliers, and guests
5. Administration
- Keep record of daily stock taking
- Ordering of stock when needed
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF 4) is essential
- A Diploma (NQF 6) is essential
- 3 years experience in preparation of food in the Hospitality Industry is essential
FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):
- Willingness to work shift and over weekends
- A valid driver’s licence
- Flexibility, creativity and organized
- Fast-paced decision-making skills
- Motivational management style
- Basic accounting skills
- Experience in stock taking, issuing and control
- Basic computer skills – excel, e-mail
- Experience in catering for functions and conferences
- Food regulations and safety
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- A positive client – service orientation
- Good interpersonal relations
- Self – motivation and sound judgement
- The ability to do physical work
- Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
