PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate Applied Mathematics modules, and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of postgraduate students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and learning:
- Presenting undergraduate & postgraduate modules. Development of new modules and updating of study guides.
2. Research and Innovation:
- Supervision of postgraduate students and the publication of research papers in accredited journals.
3. Organisational & management tasks:
- Assist with management tasks and also with Mentoring of junior staff members and involvement in university/faculty committees.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Applied Mathematics with a focus in either PDEs, Numerical Analysis, Dynamical systems, Fractional Calculus or Financial Mathematics.
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Supervision of Masters and PhD students.
- A track record of research publications.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of Latex, Matlab, word & Excel.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Work independently, but also as a team.
- Have good people skills.
- Professional and ethical behaviour.
- Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
