Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The incumbent is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities relevant to the profession of discipline.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and learning of modules in Business and Marketing Management:
  • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
  •  The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
  •  Initiation and development of study material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
  •  Marking and assessment.
  •  Consultation with students.
Research
  •  Research in area of expertise and generating research outputs in accredited conference proceedings and academic journals.
  •  Supervision of honours or postgraduate research projects.
  •  Involvement in professional activity.
Community engagement:
  • Involvement in and initiation of sustainable community upliftment initiatives.
Administration:
  •  Administrative duties related to School activities and academic programs.
Self-development:
  •  Continuous development of personal skills and abilities.

Minimum requirements

LECTURER:
  • A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Business and Marketing Management.
  • A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in an undergraduate teaching programme.
  • Research- Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works.
SENIOR LECTURER
  • A PhD (NQF Level 10) in Business and Marketing Management. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
  • Research- Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  •   Must have an in-depth knowledge of the subject field Business and Marketing Management.
  •   Computer literacy in MS Office, email and internet.
  •   Knowledge of modern platforms (such as blackboard, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaborative environment.
  •   A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.
  •   Ability to lecture large classes.
  •   Ability to conduct basic and applied research in the field of Business and Marketing Management.
  •   Ability to generate accredited research outputs.
  •   Ability to supervise research students at honours-level.

  •   Effective communication skills.
  •   Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
  •   Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.

  •   Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
  •   The ability to solve problems independently.
  •  Good time-management and problem-solving skills.
  •  Good planning and organizing skills as well as good report writing skills.
  •   A high level of professional and ethical conduct.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
