Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Co-determine the Centre for Teaching and Learning strategy and take joint accountability for the implementation of a unitary strategy across multi-campus operations through innovative research, scientifically based academic development of staff and student processes, practice and technology for success model delivery. This directorate will focus on Faculty support.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Education or an equivalent qualification on NQF level 9 in a related area of specialisation.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience as a Teaching and Learning Specialist within the higher education environment, of which 3 years should include management experience.
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Higher Education Studies will serve as a strong recommendation.
  • Membership with SAAIR, HELTASA, NADEOSA will be an advantage.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to direct the development and implementation of strategy and strategic projects
  • Excellent managerial skills, including the management of human resources
  • Thorough understanding of the theory and practice of teaching and learning in higher education
  • Thorough knowledge of approaches to academic professional development, student access and support and curriculum design and delivery and innovative approaches to technology-enabled teaching and learning
  • Established track record of relevant research in teaching and learning theory and practice
  • Well-developed understanding of the South African and international higher education systems, as well as the higher education regulatory and legal environment in South Africa
  • Sound financial management skills
  • Well-developed information and communication technology proficiency
