Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. RESEARCH · Conduct research projects as required · Quality assurance of research outputs · Drive and grow international collaboration. · Support engaged research in the faculty
2. TEACHING & LEARNING · Teach courses as required · Quality assurance and management of teaching outputs. · Drive and manage teaching and learning productivity and outputs · Manage and partake in student communication and support activities.
3. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT · Participate in community engagement activities
4. LEADERSHIP
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: · Research interests should align with the CSR’s: Radio / Optical / Gamma-ray Astronomy, Cosmic-ray physics, Heliospheric / Space Physics, Material Sciences for Space Applications. · Record of postgraduate student supervision · Record of successfully applying for research funding will be beneficial. · Leadership and outreach (community engagement) experience will be beneficial. · Demonstrable theoretical / modelling / experimental physics expertise. · Teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate physics context. · Excellent problem solving skills · Excellent computer skills · Knowledge of the higher education system · Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: · Sound interpersonal relationship skills · Excellent communication skills · Team-oriented and reliable
Minimum requirements
- MSc in Astrophysics/Astronomy/Material Physics/Space Physics
- 2 years’ teaching and learning experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- 1 year post-graduate supervision and training experience
- 2 years’ experience as an active researcher
