Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Educational interpreting & related tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Providing a professional interpreting and translation service.
  • Fulfilling interpreting service-related administrative duties.
  • Establishing and maintaining good relations with colleagues, lecturers, and students, as well as a good client-oriented work ethic.

Minimum requirements

  • A relevant Degree in Setswana, African Languages, interpreting, Linguistics, Terminology development / Language Practice (NQF level 7) or related degree plus experience in educational interpreting from Setswana to English and from English to Setswana.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience as an Educational Interpreter and in managing client-service relationships.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
  • Professional accreditation with SA Translators' Institute (SATI).
  • Membership with SA Translators' Institute (SATI).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a client-service orientation – advanced.
  • The ability to function effectively in a dynamic team.
  • The ability to take the lead, make decisions and work under pressure.
  • The ability to work innovatively, in a problem-solving way, critically, result-oriented, independently, responsibly and purposefully.
  • The ability to work abnormal hours according to the relevant timetable.
  • Motor vehicle driver’s licence.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Physically healthy and strong.
  • Planning skills and the ability to think and act proactively.
  • Willingness to learn further interpreting-related skills.
  • Professional appearance and preparedness to adhere to a dress code.
  • 24-hour communication availability.
 
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
