Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation including Community Engagement in the School of Nursing. 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Teaching and Learning:
  • Facilitate teaching and Learning module in the Health Service management postgraduate program.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation of health service management postgraduate program.
  • At the  director’s discretion, assist specific schools where the incumbent has the knowledge and expertise with both undergraduate and post-graduate modules where requested.
  • Lead students and support postgraduate teaching and learning in Health Service management.
  • Facilitate practical teaching activities of health service management program.
  • Mange teaching and learning records of health service management post graduate students.
  • Guidance, Management and development of students in post graduate practice.
2.    Research and innovation:
  • Supervise master’s and PhD students.
  • Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
  • Support and lead the enhancement of publications for a developing research staff compliment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the unit and externally where appropriate. Innovatively transform the research practice within the school. Apply for funding in (multidisciplinary) research projects.
  • Ensure increased number of publications.
  • Conduct research and publish findings in accredited national and international journals.
  • Initiate and maintain national and international research networks.
3.    Community engagement:
  • Leading in community engagement activities/projects.
  • Register and lead school community engagement projects.
  • Development of projects to the benefit of community, health and nursing service delivery.
  • Work with related schools to promote inclusion and capability where possible.
4.    Leadership:
  • Lead students and support personnel in postgraduate teaching and learning.
  • Maintain record regarding teaching and learning of health service management post graduate students.
  • Take proactive actions to develop colleagues on curriculum, teaching and learning of postgraduate programs in the school.
  • Arrange and present workshops based on their expertise for various targeted groups, based on current developments within nursing education their field.
  • To stay abreast with new developments in nursing education, curriculum development and nursing practice.
5.    Ad Hoc:
  • Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the school.
  • Serve on related research and ethics management committees as directed by the school director.

Minimum requirements

SENIOR LECTURER:
  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Nursing Management.
  • An NQF Level 8 qualification in Nursing Education.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a nurse educator and midwife.
  • A track record of master’s and PhD supervision.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience of teaching in higher education.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience track record of internal and external involvement in curriculum and assessment.
ADDED ADVANTAGE/ RECOMMENDATION:
  • Experience in nursing management will be considered.
LECTURER:
  • A master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Nursing Management.
  • An NQF Level 8 qualification in Nursing Education.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a nurse educator and midwife.
  • A track record of master’s supervision.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ nursing education experience of teaching in higher education.
  • Experience in curriculum and assessment.
ADDED ADVANTAGE/ RECOMMENDATION:
  • Those pursuing PhD in Nursing Education will be considered.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
