Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
A Lecturer is expected to make a contribution to the teaching effort of the institution and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities relevant to the profession of discipline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Teaching and Learning:
· The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, online learning, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
· Initiation and development of subject material.
2.    Development and supervision:
· The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
· Supervision of the program of study of honours students or of postgraduate students, engage in course work.
3.    Research:
· Supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects.
· The conduct of research.
· Involvement in professional activity.
4.    Development of course materials:
· Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
· Marking and assessments.
· Consultation with students.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         A Master’s of Commerce (NQF level 9) in Risk Management.

EXPERIENCE:
·         A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a particular subject group.
·         A minimum of 1 year experience in a teaching and learning environment.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), email and  internet.
·         Required knowledge of quantitative risk analysis.
·         Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
·         Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
·         A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational environment and wellbeing.
·         Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. Whiteboard technology, online learning, eFundi, etc) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
·         Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environment of the NWU.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Communicate effectively.
·         Able to ensure a high level of professional and ethical conduct.
· Good in time management Have good planning and organising skills.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
