PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Catering Officer is responsible for ordering and receiving all deliveries of stock according to set guidelines, checking that goods are not damaged, expired and are of acceptable quality and quantity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Records Management.
- Keep all invoices filed safely.
- Keep a record of all wastage.
- Keep all stock requisitions.
Inventory Management.
- Ordering stock in according to the departmental needs.
- Receiving stock, check for expiry dates, damage.
- Maintain stock par level.
- Responsible for ensuring that stock is rotated using the "First in, First out" principle (FIFO).
- Ensure that rejected stock is correctly isolated in a designated area until disposed of.
- To weigh and issue stock daily in the exact quantities as required by production.
- Ensure all stock is correctly identified and labelled.
- Monthly stock take.
- Ensure all stores remain locked.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
- Knowledge of food preparation in an industrial kitchen.
- Knowledge of handling and cleaning of equipment in a food service unit.
- Knowledge of correct storage of stock.
- The ability to lift heavy items.
- Computer literacy including MS Office and email.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Good time management and ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to work irregular hours.
- Good organising and planning skills.
- Client service orientated and able to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF level 4).
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with stock.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
- A Certificate/ Diploma in Food & Beverage Management Catering Management / Catering / Business Administration.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
