Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Manager will be responsible for planning and implementation of higher degrees student development programmes within the institution, focusing on support for monitoring and reporting higher degree student progress, and providing support and guidance to faculties on the implementation and assessment of the postgraduate attribute programmes, processes and procedures, tools and training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Programme Management:
· Planning and management of higher degrees student development projects.
· Manage resources effectively and efficiently to ensure the budget and project plan objectives are met.
· Developing, documenting and maintaining, frameworks and tools for higher degrees student development interventions.
2. Monitoring and Reporting:
· Ensure compliance to the student development component of the Higher Degrees Improvement Plan.
· Preparation of progress reports to the Higher Degrees Committee.
· Analyse progress report for student’s cases referred by faculties.
· Analyse Application vs Registration vs Graduation statistics for masters and doctoral students.
· Identifying risks/gaps and acting accordingly.
3. Relationship Management and Training:
· Manage professional relationships with higher degrees internal and external stakeholders
· Providing training and guidance to colleagues across the institution on development and implementation of postgraduate attributes.
4. Programme Reviews:
· Support to faculties during evaluation/review of masters and doctoral programmes.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· An Honours degree or equivalent (NQF Level 8)
· Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) Membership
EXPERIENCE:
· A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a management role.
· A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Higher Degrees environment.
RECOMMENDATION:
· A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9)
· A minimum of 2 years’ Research experience.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Project management from inception through to conceptualisation, development and implementation of project management plans, standard operating procedures and effective management of the project timeline
· Project Planning & Execution - Develop necessary protocols, manuals and operational guidelines for the strategic projects
· Sufficient level of technical background to accurately and objectively evaluate project risks
· Planning, organising, supporting, supervising, disseminating, higher degrees support projects
· Managing multi-phase projects
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Good interpersonal, organisational and problem solving skills
· Time management abilities and ability to meet strict deadlines
· Discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
· Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building
· Strong analytical and planning skills with the ability to manage competing demands.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
