Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Supervision of cashiers operating within the Student Centre Cafeteria and Coffee Shop and ensuring efficient financial transactions, accurate cash handling, and excellent customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Administrative:

§   Daily allocation of all cashiers at the various points of sale and reconciliation with Varsity Vending system. Daily bank of cash and credit cards as well as of all miscellaneous receipts. Regular checking of the safe.

§   Provide cashiers with change, work out their shifts and often do rounds at cashiers. Deal with problems that arise with the equipment at cashier's points.

§   Order of change from the bank.

§   Daily checking and logging cashiers time sheets.

§   Make copies of miscellaneous receipts for Admin assistant and of the bank slips for the Assistant Accountant.

§   Assisting with inventory taking and executing fair ad hoc assignments.                                  

§   Order of means from suppliers as required for optimal operation at checkouts.                                      

§   Adhere to all NWU policies, processes and rules.

2.     Personnel control:

§   Supervising cashiers, their dress code and ensuring tidy workstations.                                                                  

§   In-service training and motivation of cashiers. Maintaining discipline and handling conflict. 

3.     Liaison:

§   Internal: Liaison with colleagues and cashiers

§   External: Liaison with bank.

4.     Personal Development:

§   Attending appropriate courses, keeping abreast of new ideas and developments in the field and at the NWU.

Minimum requirements

§   Grade 12 with accounting as subject (NQF Level 4).

§   A minimum of two (2) years’ supervisory experience within a cash control environment.

RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

§   Finance/Accounting Certificate (NQF Level 5).

§   Banking experience.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

§   Good communication skills.

§   Problem solving.

§   Computer Literacy.

§   Good report writing.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

§   Good interpersonal skills.

§   Ability to coordinate a team.

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
