PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing all maintenance activities to ensure the efficient operation, safety, and reliability of facilities. Manages maintenance staff and service providers, implements preventative and corrective maintenance programmes, and ensures compliance with.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance Planning & Coordination
- Plan and schedule preventative and reactive maintenance; allocate resources; ensure timely execution of work orders.
Contractor & Staff Management
- Supervise maintenance staff and contractors; monitor performance; ensure adherence to SLAs and quality standards.
Work Order & Service Delivery Management
- Track, update, and close work orders; ensure service requests are attended to within agreed turnaround times.
Compliance & Health and Safety
- Ensure compliance with OHS regulations; conduct inspections; enforce safety standards and procedures.
Asset & Facilities Management
- Monitor asset condition; coordinate inspections; ensure proper upkeep and lifecycle management of facilities.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Liaise with internal stakeholders; provide feedback on maintenance issues; ensure customer satisfaction.
Financial & Administrative Control
- Review quotations and invoices; support budget control; ensure accurate documentation and reporting.
Minimum requirements
- A bachelors degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Management, or a related field (NQF Level 7).
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in Maintenance and/or Facilities Management.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience working with Maintenance Systems (e.g., CMMS/IWMS).
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- Registration with the South African Facilities Management [SAFMA].
- A bachelor of honours in Engineering, Facilities Management, Management, or a related field (NQF Level 8).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and priorities preventative and reactive maintenance activities using maintenance systems (CMMS/IWMS) to ensure timely service delivery.
- Strong capability to supervise staff and manage contractors, ensuring compliance with service level agreements, quality standards, and operational requirements.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving across building systems to ensure effective fault resolution.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety (OHS) regulations, ensuring compliance with all safety standards and safe working practices.
- Ability to manage work orders, track performance, and maintain accurate records and reports for operational and audit purposes.
- Competence in budget monitoring, quotation review, and invoice verification to support cost control and financial accountability.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to liaise effectively with internal clients, service providers, and management.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, ensuring deadlines are met and maintenance activities are executed efficiently.
- High level of attention to detail and customer service orientation, ensuring quality service delivery and stakeholder satisfaction.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
