Job description

Purpose of the Position:
This Research Associate Professor position is expected to make a significant contribution to all activities of the research focus area (AGoPA) and play a significant role within their profession or discipline.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet
- Knowledge of research methodology and research field
- Effective time-management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU

- Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as the ability to be self-driven

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching
- Teaching of research methodology subjects in postgraduate courses, short learning programmes and workshops.
- Initiation and development of subject material.
2. Development and Supervision
- The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars on research methodology of higher degrees.
- Supervision of postgraduate students engaged in course work
- Supervision of honours/ Masters and Doctoral research reports.
- Leadership of research teams. This may require a high level of administrative work.
3. Research
- Supervision of postgraduate students
- The conduct of own research projects
- Seeking funding for research projects
- Networking and actively seeking for national and international collaborative research projects
- Collaboration in multi-and interdisciplinary projects
- Leading research teams
4. Community Engagement
- Leading and applying research projects integrated with local and broader national community projects.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Doctoral Degree in Public Management and/or International Relations and/or Political Sciences (NQF Level 10)
- A significant number of high-quality articles in accredited and preferably high-impact journal
- Impressive record of supervision of postgraduate students
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years’ experience in Higher Education environment as Senior Lecturer or higher
- 5 years’ experience in relevant research projects
- 5 years’ experience as post graduate supervisor (including masters and PhD)
- Involvement in the organisation of national and international conferences, symposia,
- Membership of editorial committees/industrial/editorships of book series
- Leadership and project management of important research
- Experience in research collaborations and contracts
- Demonstration of initiative and academic leadership
