Job description

.      RESEARCH
·     Undertake research within the Unit for Environment Sciences and Management on issues of Geology and Soil Sciences
·     Supervision of post-graduate students.
·     Produce research output through international and national accredited articles.
·     Fundraising for research.
     TEACHING
·     Teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level in Geology
 
      COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
·     Application of expertise in communities to address local identified issues of Geology/Soil Sciences
      ADMINISTRATION
·     Administrative tasks including curriculum development
   

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·       Essential: Geology
·       Essential: Petrology and/or economic geology
·       Desirable: Additional knowledge in structural geology
·       Essential: Practical geological/palaeontological skills
·       Essential: Field work experience/mapping
·       Essential: Lab experience (e.g. XRF/XRD

Minimum requirements

·       Master’s degree in Geology (specialised in petrology/economic geology)
·       1 year experience in teaching
·       1 year experience in tutoring
·       3 years experience in conducting research and proof of publication record in accredited journals – desirable
·       Accreditation with SACNASP– desirable
·       Membership with the GSSA – desirable

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
