Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 

Junior Lecturer in Computer Science Education.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 1. Teaching and Learning

  • To facilitate teaching and learning of modules in Information Technology Education. This includes all aspects involved in teaching and learning such as facilitating classes in online and distance mode, managing the LMS, curriculum development, the development of study guides, compiling assessments, compiling question papers, marking assessments, and participating in work-integrated learning, etc.

 2. Research

  • Publishing research articles, attending conferences, and furthering of own qualifications.

 3. Community Engagement

  • Initiate, manage and participate in community engagement projects.

Minimum requirements

  • An Honours degree specialising in Information Technology Education (NQF Level 8).
  • A first degree (e.g. BSc with PGCE or BEd) with specialisation in a relevant Computer Science qualification (NQF Level 7).
  • Experience in marking Grade 12 Information Technology NSC question papers.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ in-depth teaching experience in Information Technology (Grades 10–12).

 ADDED ADVANTAGES

  • Leadership experience (active academic leadership and/or involvement in school or faculty committees).

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbally and written).
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in Delphi programming, object-oriented programming and database design.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills (Word processing, Spreadsheets, e-mails, PowerPoint, using LMS and Internet, knowledge of AI).
  • The ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in applying active teaching and learning strategies to facilitate teaching and learning in Information Technology education to enhance self-directed learning.

 BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES 

  • Should be able to function as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal and professional relations with all staff members and students.
  • Good time management and ability to work well under extreme pressure.
  • Maintain professional relationships with faculty, students, academics, and support staff.

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
