Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
At the NWU Business School, we shape executive minds in Africa through transformative business and management education, impactful research and meaningful engagement with business and society. We foster an environment of critical thinking, innovation, responsible leadership and academic excellence that equips postgraduate students and executives to navigate complex and changing organisational environments.
 
The Associate Professor, in Marketing will contribute to the academic leadership and scholarly development of Marketing within the Business School. The incumbent will be responsible for postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, postgraduate supervision, high-quality research and publication, and engagement with business, government and society.
 
The position requires an established scholar with demonstrated expertise in Marketing and related areas such as marketing strategy, consumer behaviour, digital marketing, marketing analytics, brand management or customer experience. The incumbent will contribute to the MBA, postgraduate and executive education portfolio of the Business School and strengthen the School's research, thought leadership and external engagement in the field of Marketing.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Teaching & Learning
  • Provide high-quality postgraduate teaching in Marketing and related areas; contribute to innovative curriculum design, development and review across MBA, postgraduate and Executive Education offerings.
Postgraduate Supervision
  • Provide high-quality supervision of master's and doctoral research in Marketing and related business and management fields, supporting timely completion and scholarly development.
Research & Scholarly Impact
  • Conduct and publish high-quality research in Marketing and related fields; contribute to collaborative research, research capacity development and the scholarly reputation and societal impact of the Business School.
Engagement & Thought Leadership
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with business, professional bodies, government and other stakeholders; contribute to executive education, professional engagement, public scholarship and thought leadership in Marketing.

Minimum requirements

  • PhD (NQF10) in Marketing or a closely related field, with demonstrated scholarly expertise in Marketing.
  • A record of five (5) years’ experience in high-quality teaching of Marketing or related business disciplines at a postgraduate level, preferably within a Business School environment in higher education.
  • Experience in the development, review and delivery of postgraduate curricula and module content, particularly at MBA and postgraduate level.
  • Established research and publication record in Marketing or a closely related field, together with successful postgraduate supervision appropriate to an Associate Professor level.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
  • Three (3) years’ experience relevant Marketing, management, consulting, executive education or substantive industry engagement experience.
  • Membership of a recognised national or international academic or professional association relevant to Marketing or Business Management.

  • Demonstrated strength in postgraduate teaching and learning, including blended learning.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in Marketing and contemporary marketing practice.

  • Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and collaborative environments.
