PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The main purpose of this position is to ASSIST in the FINANCIAL REPORTING FUNCTION as required from this
sub-division of Governance, Reporting and Treasury. This mainly includes the preparation and compiling
financial reports and related documents.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Year-end, mid-year, quarterly, monthly and daily procedures:
• Assist to prepare Annual Financial Statements (AFS), Management statements and all related reports (including Earmarked Grants) with attention to set due dates
• Assist with writing of reports and graphs (including Earmarked Grants)
• Data collection and processing thereof as needed to prepare required financial statements and reports
• Data maintenance and Journal entries
• Payroll vs General Ledger (GL) Reconciliation
• IFRS 15 – Contracts with Customers – Compliance with standard requirements will be a specific part of this position.
Reconciliations:
• Monthly preparation of various reconciliations – for control purposes – but also as an audit requirement
Enquiries and liaison:
• Assist End-users - mainly at year-end with General Ledger Report related enquiries
Related parties:
• Data collection from external parties and performing of related record keeping transactions
Ad hoc assignments – including personal development:
• Execution of assignments as received from Director or Senior Accountant: GRT
• Compliance with NWU policies, standards, procedures and guidelines in support of the Institutional Plan
• Back up for Senior Accountant
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS):
Compliance with OHS policies (including Covid-19 protocols as and when applicable
KEY FUNCTIONAL & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Computer literacy (MS Office as well as e-mail)
• Information systems – level III – application skills eg. VLOOKUP, PIVOT TABLES, GRAPHS
• Afrikaans and English – write and speak
• Ability to multi-task effectively
• Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
• Work accurately and complete
• Attention to detail

Minimum requirements
• Accounting III in B Com Degree (financial)
• Minimum of 3 year, in Financial Systems and Financial Reporting.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
• Information Systems III in B Com Degree (financial)
• Minimum of 3 years in completion of articles.
