Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
An assistant to the Equipment Supervisor to perform in-house calibrations and maintenance of analytical laboratory equipment, to maintain and troubleshoot computerized systems and perform detailed and timely execution of administrative tasks

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    CPBS Sustainability:
·         Promoting quality culture
·         Promoting business and customer service targets
·         Time management and planning (including leave trends, working hours)
2.    Instrument management and qualification (RIIP/ CENQAM & BIOSERVE):
·         Keep laboratory equipment in good working condition
·         Basic on-site HPLC equipment repairs as required
·         Assessing the need for new equipment and technology updates
·         Troubleshooting on general laboratory equipment
·         Equipment scheduled maintenance where required
·         Maintaining the QMS PPMP programme
·         Liaising with calibration bodies/facilities
·         Qualification of laboratory equipment (UV spectrophotometer, tablet hardness tester, dissolution apparatus, water purification systems, friability and disintegration testers)
3.    Administrative tasks:
·         Assisting equipment supervisor with administrative tasks
·         Filing of qualification documentation
·         Processing of qualification records
·         Equipment failure and maintenance records
4.    Environmental monitoring:
·         Mapping of environments and compiling of mapping reports
·         Temperature monitoring deputy
·         Review of environmental monitoring records.
5.    OHS:
·         Management of laboratory OHS as required by policies and procedures
·         Promoting responsible and safe working practices
6.    Other tasks – QMS related:
·         SOP development and review
·         Corrective and preventive actions and deviations
·         Facility Maintenance deputy
·         Equipment supervisor deputy
·         OHS deputy – QA department
· Internal and external audits, clearing of audit findings, CAPA

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         Degree in Natural / Biological Sciences OR National diploma in Analytical / Industrial chemistry or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
·         2 years’ intermediate experience in Analytical techniques
·         3 years’ intermediate experience in Computer literacy (Excel, word, PowerPoint)
RECOMMENDATION:
·         IT diploma / Certification - A , N , Windows Server or equivalent
·         2 years’ intermediate experience in Maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge of the applicable analytical techniques
·         Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, e.g. ISO 17025, GMP and GLP
·         Adhere to in-house quality system by following SOP’s
·         Recognising deviations from quality system
·         Equipment verification and validation

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
