PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The main purpose of this position is to arrange information sources on the shelves for the library as well as other services pertinent to the Shelving unit.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To arrange and maintain correct sequence of library materials on the shelves
- Conduct shelf-reading and re-shelve misplaced items.
To sort and shelve library materials
- Collect books from the reading areas and the Circulation Desk.
- Sort books numerically and alphabetically according to the Dewey Classification System.
- Shelve books
To collect and shift items
- Shifting of items to avoid overcrowding
To do record keeping, shelf control and shelf maintenance
- Maintaining arrangement of shelves to ensure easy access to all materials
To assist users with the information
- Assist patron to locate books from the shelves and refers patrons to other appropriate assistance
To assist at the circulation desk service
- Proficiently handles the circulation functions of the libraries integrated system including log-in, check-in, check-out and placing holds.
To scan/digitize print library materials into digital format
- Assist with the opening and closing the Digital Scholarship Centre/Digitization space.
- Assisting patrons with technical questions regarding digitization.
- Perform scanning of physical library materials at the digitization space.
- · Communicating with LIS staff from other campuses regarding items that needs to be digitized.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Computer literacy skills
- Communication skills – verbal and written
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Good time management skills
- Ability to function independently as well as in teamwork
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12.
RECOMMENDATION:
- A minimum of 1-year relevant work experience
