PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the position is to prepare laboratories for practical work in physics and other ad hoc tasks.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Preparing laboratories for practicals
· Maintenance of practical equipment
· Admin support to academics in charge of practicals
· Support duties for staff at the Centre for Space Research
· Supervising cleaning staff in laboratories
· Ad hoc tasks
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· A valid driver’s licence is required.
· Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
· Must be able to perform basic electrical and mechanical maintenance work on laboratory equipment.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
· Punctuality, reliability, trustworthiness, problem solving mentality.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Grade 12
· 1 year knowledge of laboratory procedures
· 1 year laboratory assistant experience
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
