Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
- The person will be responsible for administrative support relevant to the general functioning of the research director’s office and personal assistant to the research director. This includes functions as stipulated by the Research integrity officer (RIO). Tasks will also focus on research administrative management and processing of meetings, and assessments, and include investigations into potential breaches in research integrity (RI) as well as acting as secretariat during these processes. This person will be responsible for maintaining the research integrity webpage, making the necessary arrangements for RI training, maintaining the RI register of cases, recording of the progress of academics or postgraduate students in restorative mentorship programs, maintaining relevant databases and an effective record management system, as well as building meaningful relationships with researchers and postgraduate students on all the campuses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Effective general office management.:
· Administrative support relevant to the general research administration.
· General personal assistance to the Research Director
· Maintaining a research integrity (RI) case register
2. Effective administrative management and processing of research projects within the research entity:
· Administrative management and processing of research projects by means of project management principles
· Secretarial functions for meetings and research projects within the research entity
· Assistance with data analysis for research projects residing in the research director’s office.
· Preparation of monthly status reports of Research related activities
3. Maintenance of the RI webpage:
· Managing and updating the RI webpage
4. Research methodology training arrangements:
· planning and organization within the research entity of research methodology training
5. Maintaining relevant databases:
· Management and upkeep of various relevant databases linked to research projects
6. Effective record management:
· Management of a research records management system
7. Consultation with researchers and postgraduate students on all the campuses on research projects and research methodology:
· Liaise with researchers and postgraduate students across campuses regarding research projects, research capacity and research coordination between projects
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· General Research Administration
EXPERIENCE:
· 1 year experience in the university systems
· 2 years’ extensive experience in research administration
· 1 year experience in management of an extensive database
· 1 year experience in record management
· 1 year experience in interaction with academic staff and postgraduate students
· 2 years’ experience in handling of computer, printer and photocopier
RECOMMENDATION:
· Postgraduate proficiency in Project Management
· Postgraduate proficiency in Research Methodology
· Health research ethics / research integrity
· Proof of ethics/research integrity training (in-house or online)
· 1 year experience in an ethics or research integrity office
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge of the university, faculty, research units and various functions within the university system.
· Office management.
· Data-base and record management.
· Meeting arrangements and minute keeping.
· Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, internet and Groupwise).

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
