Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
A Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching both undergraduate and/or honours level Statistics modules.
- Research in the area of expertise and publish research in accredited conference proceedings and journals.
- Supervision of honours projects.
- Participate in community engagement activities.
- Serve in professional bodies as a reviewer, editor, other committees etc.
- Course development and curriculum.
- Prepare and conduct student assessments allocated modules.
- Administrative duties related to the department and school’s activities.
Minimum requirements
- A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Statistics or related discipline.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ industry or teaching experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- Studying towards a PhD degree (NQF level 10) in Statistics or related discipline.
- A minimum of one research publication in an accredited journal.
- Conference proceedings, publications in an accredited journal as well as postgraduate supervision.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to teach a variety of Statistics modules.
- Knowledge of Statistical methods and use of Statistical software.
- Ability to supervise research students at honours, masters and/or co-supervise at PhD level.
- Ability to conduct basic and applied research in the field of Statistics.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Communication skills/lecturing and people management skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Be able to work in a team.
