Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
A Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching both undergraduate and/or honours level Statistics modules.
  • Research in the area of expertise and publish research in accredited conference proceedings and journals.
  • Supervision of honours projects.
  • Participate in community engagement activities.
  • Serve in professional bodies as a reviewer, editor, other committees etc.
  • Course development and curriculum.
  • Prepare and conduct student assessments allocated modules.
  • Administrative duties related to the department and school’s activities.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Statistics or related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ industry or teaching experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  • Studying towards a PhD degree (NQF level 10) in Statistics or related discipline.
  • A minimum of one research publication in an accredited journal.
  • Conference proceedings, publications in an accredited journal as well as postgraduate supervision.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to teach a variety of Statistics modules.
  • Knowledge of Statistical methods and use of Statistical software.
  • Ability to supervise research students at honours, masters and/or co-supervise at PhD level.
  • Ability to conduct basic and applied research in the field of Statistics.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Communication skills/lecturing and people management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work in a team.
 
 
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
