Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To fill an existing vacant post to teach Life Sciences. To make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional career relevant to the profession or discipline in terms of research and community engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching-learning
- Teaching-learning of Life Sciences on contact and distance mode of delivery (includes organizational and management tasks).
2. Research
- Furthering of own qualifications (if applicable). Involvement in general research (e.g., publishing in accredited journals, presenting papers at conferences, etc.).
3. Community Engagement
- Be involved or initiate community engagement projects.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications:
- PhD in Science Education (Biology Education or Life Science Education) or
- PhD in Curriculum Studies (Biology Education or Life Science Education) or
- Doctor of Education degree in Science Education (Biology Education or Life Science Education) or
- Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum Studies (Biology Education or Life Science Education).
- Initial teacher’s qualification with specialization in Life Science Education
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience of Life Science Education in schools.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience/ functional knowledge of Life Science Education in the higher education sector.
- Currently employed in the field of Higher Education with extensive independent experience and initiative in research.
- Proven research and publication record in accredited journals.
- Completed supervision of Master’s degree students in Life Science Education (For Senior Lecturer).
- Completed supervision of Master’s and Ph.D. students in Life Science Education (For Associate/Professor Lecturer).
- Appropriate academic and professional networks.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Fundamental Knowledge of Life Sciences and Life Science Education concepts to Life Sciences content and methodology modules for undergraduate B.Ed and Hons students;
- Knowledge of dynamic teaching- learning technologies
- Good computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
- Use of blended learning environments, e.g. Internet and email
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Able to function well in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural working environment
- Good communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good planning skills
