Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The appointment intern psychologist will contribute to the clinical practice within the CHHP and complete an internship as required by the HPCSA under supervision of a permanent counselling psychologist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Psychological assessment of children, adolescents and adults.
  • Counselling Psychotherapy of children, adolescents and adults.
  • Psychoeducation/ community work.
  • Supervision and Internship Training program.
  • Ethical and professional conduct.
  • Other professional activities.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master of Arts or Master of Science degree (NQF level 9) in Counselling Psychology.
  • Registration with the HPCSA as an Intern Psychologist.
  • A minimum of one (1) year counselling skills experience at Psychology Master’s level.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Psychological assessment of clients using HPCSA recognized psychometric instruments.
  • Ability to conduct case presentations and multi-disciplinary groups discussions.
  • Attendance of individual and group supervision on a weekly basis.
  • Client or case relevant research (i.e. diagnostic or therapeutic information) and theoretical conceptualization.
  • Administrative responsibilities.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency.
  • Referent letter from Supervisor is essential when applying.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • The ability to work well independently and also in a team.
