Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Facilitation of teaching and learning of the undergraduate nursing students in simulation and clinical areas. The preceptor will be required to supervise, guide, support, mentor and teach clinical skills to the nursing students. Key performance area includes facilitation of clinical teaching and learning of undergraduate students, simulation lab activities, records management and professional development of nursing students.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Teaching and learning:

  • Facilitation of Teaching and Learning activities in the simulation laboratory of the undergraduate programme.
  • Clinical accompaniment of students in clinical facilities
  • Employment of a variety of teaching and learning strategies
  • Implementation of clinical assessment strategies to determine learner competencies.
  • Record keeping of clinical teaching of midwifery undergraduate students.
  • Plan and implement clinical program according to university schedule.
  • Coaching and mentoring of students in clinical learning environment
  • Support with teaching and learning of research module of the undergraduate students.

 

2.       Research and Innovation:

  • Supervision of research in undergraduate
  • Participation in NuMiQ research activities
  • Conduct own Postgraduate studies.

 

3.       Social responsibilities:

  • Participation in community engagement and development of projects to the benefit of community health and nursing service delivery.

 

4.       Leadership:

  • Support and guide students in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
  • Support and assist with clinical nursing programmes.
  • Participate in School committees.

Minimum requirements

  • A 4-year degree (NQF level 8) in Nursing Science.
  • A Postgraduate diploma (NQF level 8) in Nursing Education.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in nursing education.

RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

  • Master of Nursing sciences (NQF level 9).

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
