PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Veterinary laboratory technologist: analyse samples, train students, participate in QC, accreditation process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the day-to-day Animal Health veterinary Laboratory activities.
- Conduct student practical (Laboratory techniques).
- Training of staff and students on veterinary laboratory techniques and analysis .
- Ensure quality analysis and control of results submitted for analysis.
- Participate in the Implementation and maintenance of laboratory quality control system (QC).
- Ensure implementation and maintenance of laboratory accreditation with DAFF and SANAS.
- Participate in teaching, research, and publication.
Minimum requirements
- A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Veterinary Microbiology.
- Professional registration with SAVC.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in veterinary microbiology, veterinary parasitology, and water, milk microbiology, udder health.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- A MSc (NQF level 9) in Veterinary Technology / microbiology.
- A working experience in molecular microbiology.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Work in a Veterinary laboratory.
- Sound Knowledge of veterinary microbiology.
- Management of Veterinary Laboratory.
- Participation in laboratory accreditation experience.
- Training experience of staff and students in veterinary laboratory.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to work in group.
- Ability to work under pressure.
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
