PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To ensure that all electrical (MV and LV) equipment and machines, pertaining to Hostels and campus facilities are in safe working condition and maintained according to all regulations and statutory requirements
Job description
- General Maintenance and contractor management.
- Preventative maintenance.
- Regular inspections on equipment.
- Issue safe working permits and do risk assessments and OHS.
- Manage Artisan Assistants.
- Communicate to technician regarding maintenance.
- Do standby and react during Power failures after hours as well
Minimum requirements
- Qualified Artisan: Trade certificate (Electrician) NQF Level 4 Electrical Trade Certificate (Red Seal) is essential
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 5 years’ technical experience related to field of expertise.
- A minimum of 3 years’ maintenance experience
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Qualified Electrician: National diploma (Electrician) NQF Level 6 will be an added advantage
- Registration with Wireman’s licence (Dept of Labour) will be an added advantage
- Membership with NBCEI will be an added advantage
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
- Good communication skills and fault reporting.
- Ability to work according to planning schedules with measurable intermediate goals.
- Computer literacy to work with electronic job cards.
- Advanced knowledge of infrastructure processes.
- Ability to function under pressure and make decisions according to regulations.
- Understand 11 000V distribution network and safety parameters
- Ability to manage Emergency power generators and equipment
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCE:
- Able to operate with minimum supervision.
- Pro-active and innovative problem-solver.
- Enthusiastic team player with positive social and interpersonal skills.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
