Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the position is to have a driver dedicated to transporting Pharmacy students on clinical training rotations to and from hospitals and clinics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transportation of students to and from clinical facilities:
- Be a responsible, law-abiding, punctual driver.
- Ensuring correct passenger head count in accordance with passenger lists.
- Adapt recommended routes as needed.
- Take charge of boarding area if multiple vehicles are used.
- Willing to wait in assigned, safe waiting area whilst students are on rotation.
- Willing to accommodate short-notice trips.
- Taking responsibility for the condition of the vehicle, ensuring that vehicle is mechanically sound.
- Managing passenger behaviour.
- Enforcing litter-bin rule, ensuring a neat interior.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Administrative tasks:
- Keeping vehicle logbook up to date.
- Reporting any mechanical or maintenance concerns.
- Monitor passenger list completion.
- Develop bus rules in collaboration with LIWC staff.
- Ensure that all passengers have their seatbelts fastened at all times, whilst traveling and maintain bus rules.
- Ensure that his/her PDP and Code 10 driver’s license is always valid.
Ad hoc task:
- Any additional tasks assigned by vehicle park personnel, LIWC staff or School Director.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 10.
- A valid drivers’ license (Code 10/C1).
- A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- A minimum of two (2) years’ transporting experience.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of automobile equipment
- Knowledge of basic automotive maintenance procedures
- Standard operating procedures
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Health and safety procedures.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
- Attention to detail.
- Accountability
- Respect.
