PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Senior kitchen assistant is responsible for cleaning tasks and packing of stock in cold rooms and storing facilities. The person is responsible for the delivery of stock and transport of prepared food.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleaning
· Cleaning of kitchen area as well as washing of heavy apparatus and equipment.
Delivery
· Delivery of stock and prepared food to different units.
Storage
· The packing of stock in cold rooms and storing facilities.
Occupational Health and Safety
· Application of health and safety procedures.
Communication
· Effective communication with colleagues and clients.
Personal Development
· Development of the own person and staying abreast of new technology.
Ad Hoc
· Perform reasonable ad hoc tasks.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge of occupational health and safety procedures.
· Knowledge of the handling and cleaning of equipment in a food service unit.
· Knowledge of cleaning tasks and cleaning products.
· Knowledge of storage of supplies and items.
· The ability to lift heavy items.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Good time management skills and the ability to function under pressure.
· Willingness to work irregular hours.
· Good organising and planning skills.
· Good communication skills, be client service orientated and the ability to liaise with colleagues and clients.
· The ability to work as part of a team.
Minimum requirements
· Grade 10 (NQF Level 2).
· A valid driver’s licence (code EB).
· A minimum of 1 year experience in an industrial kitchen environment.
· Knowledge of the First in, First out principle.
