Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
A Lecturer / Senior Lecturer is expected to contribute to the teaching effort of the institution and carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities to the profession or discipline. An academic at this level is also expected to play a role in scholarship, research, and/or professional activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SENIOR LECTURER:
1.    Teaching and Learning:
·         Prepare and deliver lectures and seminars on marketing management to undergraduate/postgraduate students
·         Marking and assessment.
·         Consultation with students.
2.    Development and Supervision:
·         Supervision of the program of study of honour students or of postgraduate students engages in course work.
·         Supervise master’s and PhD students.
·         Teaching activities may include the supervision of honours and research students.
3.    Research and Innovation:
·         Conduct research and publish findings in respected national and international journals (IBSS/Scopus/ISI).
·         Establish and maintain national and international research networks.
·         Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
·         Initiate collaborations with colleagues on research-related matters.
·         Involvement in professional activity.
4.    Development of course material:
·         Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
·         Contribute to module and curriculum development and transformation.
·         Develop study material and study guides.
5.    Community Engagement:
·         Initiate, develop, register and present community engagement projects that focus on work-integrated learning, community research, and outreach.
·         Engage with industries through Short Learning Programmes (SLP’s), consultation, case study research and guest lecturing.
6.    Academic Leadership:
·         Participate in the school’s and faculty’s management structures.
·         Represent the School of Management Sciences in Faculty, University, National and International management structures, committees, boards or professional bodies.

LECTURER:

·         Involved in community engagement and sharing of expertise.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         Senior Lecturer:
  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Marketing Management.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ lecturing experience within a higher education institution.
  • Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works.
·         Lecturer:
  • A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Marketing Management.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ lecturing experience within a higher education institution.
  • Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
·         Research outputs.
·         A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational environment.
·         Demonstrable computer literacy and competence in MS Office, e-mail and internet. as well as qualitative/quantitative analysis programs (e.g., SPSS, MPLUS, R, AMOS, AtlasTi).
·         Have knowledge and competency in learning support in a learning management system (e.g. SAKAI, Moodle, Blackboard).

·         Effective time management skills.
·         Effective communication skills.
·         Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
·         Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
·         The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group.
·         Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as the ability to be self-driven.
·         Ability to solve problems independently.
·         High level of professional and ethical conduct.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
