Job description

 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The provision of professional free legal services to the indigent and poor members of the community.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •  Community and scientific engagement / social responsiveness
  • Academic leadership, management, and administration/university service
  • Occupational Health and Safety


Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • LLB NQF 8
  • Registration with Legal Practice Council – admitted legal practitioner
  • Minimum 2 years’ Litigation experience in Magistrate’s and Regional Court
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  • LLM NQF 9
  • Practical legal training (LSSA/LEAD)
  • Minimum 1 years’ community engagement experience
  • Minimum 1 years’ post article experience as an attorney
 Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
  • Legal language skills
  • Computer literacy in MS Word and Office, as well as email, internet and electronic retrieval of legal sources
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrate language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
  • Sound knowledge of advocacy, consultation, research, administration, drafting and file management skills
Behavioural Competencies
  • Good interpersonal relations
  • Ability to communicate with clients and staff members
