Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To effectively and efficiently maintain safety and security on the NWU Mahikeng Campus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication and Stakeholder Relations
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders with regard to Protection Services through various mediums.
- Prepare and present formal and informal security briefings to Protection Services, staff, and contracted security members of NWU (Mahikeng Campus).
- Ensure adherence to vision, mission, values, and Code of ethics on daily basis for unitary NWU Protection Services.
- Ensure adherence to Campus regulations.
- Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Joint accountability with leadership for management effectiveness of NWU Protection Services.
- Crime Information Management.
- Ensure crime, incidents, and information are captured on CHASE system and property register.
- Ensure crime information received is reported to the relevant Senior Control Officer/Control Officer and relevant documents are completed.
Operations
- Daily delivery of effective communication in order to ensure a safe NWU Mahikeng Campus Community.
- To act in the best safety and security interest of NWU Mahikeng Community.
- Effective alarm monitoring and management.
- Ensure effective key control.
- Regular and consistent radio and telephone communication.
- Ensure all equipment faults and deviations are reported and captured timeously.
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act.
Security
- Capture outsourced security deployment on CHASE.
- Disaster Management.
- Disaster management compliance ensuring immediate response for immediate disasters.
- Internal and external stakeholders’ communication with reference to incident response management plans and catastrophic incidents.
- Special events and Emergency Services.
- Execute special duties during events as and when required.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF level 4)
- Professional registration with PSIRA – Grade C.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in control room duties.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- CCTV course.
- Working knowledge of the CHASE system.
- Experience working within the higher education sector.
- A valid driver’s license.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Intermediate – Advanced Computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Presentations).
- Excellent written and verbal communication (Report writing, radio, and telephone) skills to effectively function within a multicultural and multilingual environment.
- Ability to work according to planning schedules with measurable intermediate goals.
- Complete and maintain an accurate pocketbook and incident documentation.
