Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty, and other organisational unit or interdisciplinary area. The successful candidate is also expected to play a role in scholarship, research, and/or professional activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning 

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules.

Research and Publication 

  • Publish two peer review articles per year.

Supervision

  • Be able to supervise Honours research project, MA, and PhD thesis in the subject group.

Community engagement

  • You should be able to provide your expertise as an academic to other stakeholders around the region. Examine MA and PhD thesis from other universities in and outside the country.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Provide any types of administrative support to the subject group.

Minimum requirements

SENIOR LECTURER 

  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Public Administration/ Public Management or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of three (5) years’ experience in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level at a tertiary institution. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience doing research in own studies, delivering conference papers and publishing in accredited journals.
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision.
  • Provide effective academic leadership and support. 

LECTURER

  • A master’s degree (NFQ level 9) in Public Administration/Public Management or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level at a tertiary institution.
  • Current supervision of postgraduate student is an advantage.

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
