NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: FACULUTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P001629 VACANCY: SENIOR LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A7 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION This position aims to address teaching and learning in Pharmacology for all the professional courses (B.NSc and B. Pharm) in the Faculty of Health Sciences. It includes supervision to both undergraduate and postgraduate students across the faculty’s blended training platform, while strengthening and expanding research in the subject group and Pharmacen will be of paramount importance.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING AND LEARNING:
·       Teaching and learning in the undergraduate B.Pharm and B.NSc-programmes (subject: Pharmacology), and be compliant with the relevant Statutory body’s requirements.

POSTGRADUATE TEACHING AND LEARNING:
·       Supervision of postgraduate students in the MSc programme of the research subprogramme: Translational Neuroscience and Neurotherapeutics.
RESEARCH:
·       Initiating and conducting research within the research subprogramme: Translational Neuroscience and Neurotherapeutics, and the ability to write publications and funding applications relevant to the core focus of the subprogramme.
LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIVENESS:
·       Provide service to the University by contributing to the definition and achievement of its goals and enable it to be a healthy organisation. This includes being a member of faculty and subject group committees and working parties within the University.
·       Maintain an involvement in community service as a scholarly practice through the application of pharmacological knowledge and skills.


KEY FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
·       A sound knowledge of Pharmacology.
·       Presentation/ lecturing skills
·       Language proficiency in Afrikaans and English (reading, writing and speech)
·       Grant Application Writing
·       Experimental Study Design within the field of pre-clinical pharmacology
·       Computer literate

Minimum requirements

·       2 years’ experience in lecturing to undergraduate students in a B.Pharm. curriculumin the field of preclinical pharmacology is essential.
·       2 years’ experience in research experience relating to preclinical pharmacology with 2 publications is essential.
