PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The lecturer position will assist in addressing the challenges of capacity at the IKS Centre.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching of modules in indigenous knowledge systems.
- Doctoral study / research in indigenous knowledge systems.
- Community engagement in indigenous knowledge systems.
- Participation in research & publication.
Minimum requirements
- A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience in Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
- A minimum of one (1) year research development and management experience.
- A minimum of one (1) year community engagement experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to develop study materials, teach modules in Indigenous Knowledge Systems using indigenous pedagogies.
- Ability to engage with the holders / practitioners and communities in indigenous knowledge systems.
- Knowledge, skills, competencies of indigenous research methodologies, cosmologies, ontologies, philosophies, epistemologies and worldviews .
- Effective communication, computer skills suitable for teaching, community engagement and research dissemination.
- Ability to design, execute and publish research findings in indigenous knowledge systems.
- Ability to work in a team, ability to work under pressure.
- Leadership skills, tolerance, innovative, creative, flexible, effective, punctual.
- Ability to work and engage with the indigenous communities, indigenous knowledge holders and practitioners.
- Ability to resolve conflict, build peace, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence.
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
