PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Technology subject group requires an artisan with a background in maintenance and repairs on machinery in the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical fields. The position furthermore requires the senior laboratory assistant to ensure that OHS rules and regulations are followed; prepare materials for practical; assist during practical; perform stocktaking in all workshops; assist with obtaining quotations for the subject groupKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintenance
• Maintenance and repairs on all machinery in the Mechanical, Civil and Electrical workshops.
2. Occupational health and safety
• Make sure that all workshops adhere to OHS regulations.
3. Preparing material
• Prepare material for practicals in the Mechanical, Civil and Electrical workshops.
4. Practicals
• Assist lecturers with Mechanical, Civil and Electrical practicals when more than 15 students are present.
5. Stocktaking
• Stocktaking in the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Engineering Graphics and Design workshops
6. Purchase orders
• Assist lecturers with obtaining quotations.
7. Additional tasks
• As indicated by the subject group leader.
Minimum requirements
• A diploma (NQF level 6) in Engineering (Millwright / Boilermaker) with 18 months of practical experience in a relevant workshop.
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a workshop.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
• Accreditation with MERSETA / DHET
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a qualified artisan.
• Red Seal endorsement (NQF level 5).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Maintenance and repairs on all machinery in the Mechanical, Civil and Electrical workshops.
• Make sure that all workshops adhere to OHS regulations.
• Prepare material for practicals in the Mechanical, Civil and Electrical workshops.
• Assist lecturers with Mechanical, Civil and Electrical practical’s when more than 15 students are present.
• Stocktaking in the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Engineering Graphics and Design workshops.
• Obtain quotations for the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Engineering Graphics and Design Workshops
• Should have a First Aid certificate level 1 (Not expired)
• Fire Marshall certificate (Not expired)
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) certificate
• Good computer skills in Word, Excel, etc.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
• Be able to operate in a multi-lingual working environment.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
