Job description

1. Biochemistry laboratory health and safety maintenance 

2. Departmental procurements and research equipment maintenance

3. Undergraduate practical (year 1 to 3), co-ordinating student assistance, setting up and demonstration

4. Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 is essential
• BSc honours degree, MSc will be added advantage, specializing in biochemistry or any related field is essential 
• 3 years experience in a Biochemistry research laboratory is essential 

FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):

• Basic safety rules in a Biochemistry Laboratory.
• Health and safety practices and precautions applicable to a laboratory
• Scientific procedures and techniques used in a biochemistry Laboratory.
• Good technical skills (operation and maintenance of chemical equipment)
• Computer literacy in Internet, Email & MS Office (Word, Excel, Power point)
• Good report writing skills (reports , inventory, instructions)

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to function as part of the team and also in a multicultural environment
• Ability to work effectively under pressure
• Good time management

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
