Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As the Junior Digital Markerter, your role is to develop and implement social media strategies to increase brand awareness, improve customer engagement and generate leads through various social media platforms. The role will be responsible for managing, executing and optimisation of organic & paid social media plans as well as the efficient day-to-day management of digital channels in line with NWU brand promise and values. The candidate must have in-depth knowledge in digital marketing with social media being a key focus area. An in-depth knowledge of technologies and processes involved in running paid social media campaigns, best practices, social media trends, content creation, community management & engagement, monitoring tools as well as reporting. The fullest understanding of the various digital media platforms is essential to execute projects of all sizes and complete them with resourcefulness and dedication.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Digital Media: Campaign development
  • Responsible for the execution digital campaigns: develop and implement social media strategies to increase brand awareness, improve customer engagement, and generate leads through various social media platforms.
  • Actively participate in development of digital media campaigns, content creation and integration with different marketing and student recruitment campaigns to strengthen the NWU brand, attributes, and message.
  • Manage, execute, and optimize organic & paid social media plans in line with marketing and student recruitment campaigns, NWU brand promise and values.
  • Create, curate, and publish high-quality content across various digital media platforms to engage with the target audience and meet campaign objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, designers, and developers, to ensure successful campaign execution.
  • Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in all digital marketing activities, including creating copy, ad copy, tracking analytics, and reporting on campaign and channel performance.
  • Responsible for the digital media platforms in terms of marketing, corporate and stakeholder communication
  • Ensure that the University's brand strategy is applied to all digital platforms.
  • Help to identify brand ambassadors on the different campuses and support the campaigns that result from this.
  • Support senior digital marketers in digital advertising campaigns.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends, best practices and technologies in digital marketing and social media.
  • Continuously develop and maintain a deep understanding of the various digital media platforms and related technologies and processes involved in running paid social media campaigns.
  • Prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently to ensure that projects are completed on time.
 
2.      Monitoring and engagement
  • Monitor and analyse the performance of social media campaigns using various tools and make data-driven decisions to improve campaign effectiveness.
  • Monitor official NWU social media platforms daily.
  • Monitor the NWU Brand on various social media platforms with monitoring tools and reporting on all social media activities.
  • Manage day-to-day activities on all social media platforms, including community management and engagement, responding to comments and messages according to the voice and tone of the NWU and the brand attributes.
  • Alert in a timely fashion the relevant stakeholders of potential brand damage and crisis situations.
3.      Ad Hoc
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by supervisor.



Minimum requirements

  • A relevant degree in Marketing or Communication.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in the field of digital marketing with social media being a key focus areas which includes digital media content creation, publishing, design, community management and monitoring.
  • Knowledge & experience of using Meta Business Suite, TikTok Ads Manager, LinkedIn Ads Manager, prospecting and retargeting tools.
  • Minimum four (4) year’s proven experience in knowledge of content management systems as well as a thorough knowledge of trends in digital media environment.
  • The ability to engage effectively with various target audiences on the different digital media platforms.

ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
  • Four (4) years’ proven experience in the field of digital media advertising – compiling and execution.
  • Experience in developing and executing social media campaigns.
  • Knowledge in overall content creation – design, photography & videography included.
  • Knowledge of social media management tools, including scheduling and analytics platforms.
  • Knowledge of SEO, keyword research and social media advertising.
  • Creative and innovative thinker.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data and create reports.
  • Ability to prioritise and multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
 
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Advanced knowledge and drive to investigate, innovate, and develop brand marketing and student recruitment campaigns creativity with an emphasis on digital media platforms.
  • Proficient knowledge of principles for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of the tertiary environment.
  • Language ability to function within the multilingual policy of the University and its different target audiences.
  • Advanced level of competency in terms of computer literacy.
  • Driver’s licence and willingness to travel.

  • Adaptability: The digital marketing landscape is constantly evolving, and it’s important to be able to adapt to changes quickly. Being open to learning new tools and technologies, and embracing new strategies and tactics is key.
  • Creativity: Digital marketing requires a lot of creative thinking, from developing engaging content to crafting eye-catching visuals. The junior digital marketer should be able to think outside the box and come up with innovative ideas.
  • Analytical thinking and skills: As a junior digital marketer, it is essential to have a data-driven mindset and the ability to analyse and interpret data. This includes being able to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven decisions. The ability to give knowledgeable advice with regards to digital media campaigns, content, best practice and integration with different marketing campaigns to strengthen the NWU brand attributes and message.
  • Communication skills & Customer service: Digital marketing involves collaborating with different stakeholders, including clients, designers, and developers. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for building strong relationships and conveying ideas clearly.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail: Digital marketing requires a lot of attention to detail, from creating ad copy to tracking analytics. The junior digital marketer needs to be meticulous in their work to ensure that campaigns are error-free and achieve the desired results.
  • Time management: The ability to manage time effectively is crucial in digital marketing. The junior digital marketer should be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently to ensure that projects are completed on time.
  • Curiosity: The junior digital marketer should be naturally curious and always looking to learn. Staying up-to-date with industry trends and experimenting with new tactics is key to staying ahead of the competition. Bottom of Form
