Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1.      RESEARCH
·       Research expertise in Electrochemistry / Hydrometallurgy / Atmospheric Chemistry / Molecular Modelling / Organic Catalysis and Synthesis
2.      TEACHING AND LEARNING
·       Specialisation in Physical Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Inorganic Chemistry / Organic Chemistry
3.      COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
4.      MANAGEMENT
 
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         A record of postgraduate student supervision will be beneficial.
·         A proven record of conceptualising research, getting the research done and publishing the outcomes of the research.
·         International research collaboration will be beneficial.
·         Outreach (community engagement) experience will be beneficial.
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Willing to take on administrative and leadership duties.
·         Operate well as part of a team.
·         Ability to teach diverse groups and in diverse environments
·         Must be able to work under pressure
·         Good communicator
·         Good writing skills
·         Good problem solving skills
Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU

Minimum requirements

·       PhD Chemistry
·       0 – 3 years experience in teaching and learning (undergraduate and postgraduate level)
·       0 – 3 years post-graduate supervision and training experience (head supervisor / promoter or co-supervisor)
·       0 – 3 years research experience 

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
