Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning –

  • Engaged teaching and learning on both under- and post graduate levels: Develop study material, facilitate contact sessions, internal and external moderation, and assessments.
  • Supervision of post graduate students; internal and external examination of post graduate research dissertations and/or theses.

Research
  • Engaged research: Participation in the applicable research entity and publication of scholarly articles. Independent research and sharing of expertise with diverse communities of practice and enquiry.

Community engagement:
  • Participation in community engagement activities, including the work integrated learning of students.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • PhD in social work
  • Master of Social work
  • Registered as social worker with the SACSSP
  • Three years’ generic social work practice experience (Essential).
  • One to three years’ proven publication record and evidence of independent research
  • One to three years’ experience in teaching university students on undergraduate and post graduate levels
  • One to three years’ experience in supervision of post-graduate students.
 
Recommendation
  • One year’s practice experience in the fields of child protection and or school social work.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in social work and its relevant primary and secondary methods and theoretical frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbally and written).
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft office (Word / Excel / Power Point), e-mails, software for data analysis).

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication.
  • The ability to work well independently as well as in a team.
  • Good time management and ability to work well under pressure.
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
