Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer: Provide teaching and learning services as well as a research function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning

  • Teaching assigned classes according to the NWU teaching and learning strategies, ensuring required throughput and achieving student-lecturer evaluation scores in accordance with the university’s expectations.

Research

  • Research outputs as to be discussed with programme leader and deputy director. 

Community Engagement

  • Actively contribute to community engagement projects as part of the School of Accounting Sciences.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master of Commerce in Accountancy or equivalent (NQF level 9).
  • Registration with SAICA as a CA(SA).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the field as an Accountant.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in teaching Accountancy at a SAICA-accredited university.

In addition to the above,

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

  • A PhD degree in Accountancy or equivalent (NQF level 10).
  • A proven research track record with publications in accredited journals as required at the level of Associate Professor at the North-West University.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Postgraduate supervision experience in the field of Accountancy.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: 

  • A working knowledge of essential technical competencies required in the field of accountancy including accounting, auditing, management accounting, financial management and taxation.
  • Knowledge of working with students, handling large classes, setting of assessments.
  • Knowledge of the process of research and an eagerness to conduct research.
  • Interest in community service.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office package (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Knowledge of Accounting-related software packages.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU.
