Job description
Purpose Of The Position:
Animal Health Technician in large and companion animal section.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist the veterinarian with all cases presented to the hospital or on farms.
2. Assist with students’ training in collaboration with the lecturer/veterinarian in charge.
3. Assist with Administration and reporting monthly and yearly.
4. Assist with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters.
Key Functional/ Technical Competencies:
· Animal Health technician with advanced knowledge of companion and production animal diseases and clinics
· Assist the veterinarian with student training on companion and production animal diseases and clinics
· Ability to prepare monthly, yearly inventory and reporting on companion and production animal diseases and clinics
· Occupational health and safety and biosecurity requirements for Animal Health environment
· Knowledge and understanding and application of the Animal Disease Act 35 of 1984; Veterinary And Para- Veterinary Act 19 Of 1982; Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, AgriculturalRemedies And Stock Remedies Act 36 Of 1947; Foodstuffs, Cosmetics And Disinfectant Act 54 Of 1972; Stock Theft Act 57 Of 1959.
Behavioural Competencies:
· People management.
Minimum requirements
· A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Animal Health with Production and Companion Animal as areas of specialisation.
· Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
· A minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in Veterinary production and companion animal hospital.
Added Advantages:
· A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Animal Health with Production and Companion Animal as areas of specialisation.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
