Job description

1.      RESEARCH
·     Drive and manage research productivity, output, and quality
·     Create an enabling research environment and guide innovation initiatives
·     Recommend and guide recommended academic development and capacity building to improve research outputs
·     Conduct own research and publication and maintain academic scholarship.
·     Support engaged research in the faculty.
2.      TEACHING AND LEARNING
·     Teach courses as required
·     Quality assurance and management of teaching outputs
·     Drive and manage teaching and learning productivity, output and quality aligned to the Teaching and Learning Plan
 
3.      COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
·     Participate in community engagement activities
 
4.      MANAGEMENT
·     Provide value-based leadership in transformation of the school

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·       Experience in teaching and learning in both an undergraduate and postgraduate chemistry context with a specialisation in Physical Chemistry and/or Analytical Chemistry.
·       Experience in module and curriculum development in a chemistry context.
·       Expertise in research should align within the fields of Electrochemistry / Hydrometallurgy / Atmospheric Chemistry / Molecular Modelling / Organic Catalysis and Synthesis.
·       Proven record of postgraduate student supervision.
·       Proven record of research proposal writing and submission and the securing of research funds.
·       Proven record of conceptualising research, getting the research done and publishing the outcomes of the research.
·       International research collaboration will be beneficial.
·       Excellent problem-solving skills
·       Excellent computer skills
·       Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU

·       Willing to take on administrative and leadership duties 

Minimum requirements

·       PhD in Chemistry
·       1 – 5 years’ teaching & learning experience (undergraduate and postgraduate)
·       1 – 5 years’ experience of post-graduate supervision and training
·       1 – 5 years’ research experience

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
