NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY MAHIKENG CAMPUS DIVISION: FINANCE AND FACILITIES DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES POSITION NUMBER: M001134 VACANCY: SPECIALIST SPACE INVESTIGATIONS PEROMNES GRADE: 8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To serve as a specialist space investigations who is responsible for: (1) Space- and infrastructure investigations up to Project Business Case phase; (2) Executing space management functions such as move requests- and move planning, space allocations (3) participating in strategic space and infrastructure planning in line with Approved NWU Spatial Master plan .
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead space and infrastructure investigations for the NWU 3 Year Infrastructure Plan

·        Lead infrastructure request investigations to determine space use requirements, based on Space, Student and Staff HEMIS information. Complete option analysis, concept drawings and recommend cost effective solutions in initiation reports.

·        Coordinate the project team for the Business Case phase to deliver signed-off scope of work reports, concept drawings, project budgets and project charters) for larger capital projects.

·        Conduct investigations for minor building works / minor unscheduled projects and compile initiation reports.

·        Provide progress reports to direct manager.

Strategic Space & Infrastructure Planning

·        Complete and Present Business Cases to the Facilities Working Committee to recommend projects for inclusion in the 3 Year Infrastructure Plan.

·        Provide inputs into strategic space planning activities such as the revision of the NWU spatial master development plan by providing information.

Optimised Space Allocations

·        Oversee and execute all Space Allocations on a campus according to space norms and approved space management guidelines to ensure optimal utilisation of space.

Move planning

·        Manage move planning on campus (move requests and larger move planning)

Minimum requirements

·        ­­A degree (NQF level 7) in Architecture or Built Environment

·        A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Space Planning

ADDED ADVANTAGES:

·        A minimum of 2 years’ experience in space management (Space norms, space planning, allocations, move planning)

 

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Able to understand requirements for infrastructure and spaces.

·        Space planning capabilities.

·        Drawing basic building lay-outs based on user requirements.

·        Knowledge and experience in space management principles.

·        Good verbal communication and report writing skills.

·        Computer Literacy: MS Excel.

·        CAD software capabilities.

·        Compile basic cost estimates.

·        Compiling basic project budgets.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Enthusiastic team player with positive social and interpersonal skills.

·        Able to work independently without direct supervision.

·        Pro-active and innovative problem solver.

·        The ability to liaise internally and externally on different levels.

·        Ability to lead professional teams if required.

 

REMUNERATION:

 

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
